TAKE A BREAK
Blue to yellow
Blue to Yellow is a discursive design project aimed at increasing awareness of anxiety through a visual and interactive product. Problem
In today's media-saturated environment, people are increasingly exposed to overwhelming amounts of negative news and digital content, which can intensify stress and anxiety. Despite advancements in mental health treatment, there remains a lack of accessible, everyday tools that help individuals recognise, visualise, and reflect on their emotional state in real time. Anxiety often goes unnoticed or is stigmatised, leading to emotional suppression rather than awareness and care.
There is a critical need for products that not only support mental wellbeing but also provoke meaningful discussion about emotional health. The challenge is to create a device that translates invisible feelings into visible, tangible experiences encouraging reflection, empathy, and behavioural change without reinforcing stigma.

DEVELOPMENT
Blue to Yellow was developed with a focus on symbolic form and function. Inspired by a pill to represent mental wellness, the design evolved through sketches and CAD modelling into a stable, five-legged structure featuring animated faces, an internal fan, and a feedback screen, balancing emotional impact with practical feasibility.
